What will the class be like?
Well now I have given you an idea and let you know what you will need to bring. You may be asking yourself “Self, Are you ready to do this?”. Let me give you some things to think about. In the classroom you will be asked to work in a group. You get a workbook that belongs to you. In the back there are questions that your group will work together to answer. Some companies send the book out before so you get a chance to look at it and maybe answer the questions before hand. You will see some videos about the course and specialized information about the motorcycles and gear.
Some companies will have you come in Friday night with no riding (range) time. Some companies will have you come in Saturday morning where they do your classroom work first and then get you out on the range. If they have you in Friday you won’t need to worry about gear. If they have you in Saturday morning, be prepared with all your gear and a day of riding. On your first day of riding, here are some things to consider. Each riding exercise will probably run between 15 and 40 minutes. There are usually 2-3 exercises between breaks. This is the time you should ALWAYS follow “Old Man Travel Rule #1” Never pass a bathroom. DO IT ON THE BREAKS. If the class is stopped, it isn’t stopped just for you. You have (usually) 11 other people to consider. Bring plenty of drinking water that you can get to quickly on breaks. Stay hydrated. Even in the cooler weather you can become dehydrated quickly. Bring sun protection. I have seen the most non-burning people arrive Sunday morning with a whopper of a burn. Bring little snacks. If you tend to be kind of shaky if you don’t eat every 2 hours, the rest of the class has to wait while you run up the street to the Gas-n-Go to take care of yourself. Realize that this is A LOT of exercise. You will be tired at the end of the day. Most companies will give you an hour lunch. That is enough for a fast food sandwich not enough for a sit down meal. The class may start without you and you are done for that weekend. Always be back on time!! The whole class has to wait when someone is not there. Or they may start without you. Then you are done that weekend. So here is the long and the short 1. Be rested 2. Be prepared 3. Be on time. Most of all plan on having a blast.
